Dog Tales! – is it time to give Facebook the ‘flick’?
Hi, this is ‘Chica’ signing in to give you a dogs perspective. At the time of writing this, I was watching my human Dad reading a distressed email from ‘Vets Beyond Borders’ about how their Facebook site is down and that they now have lost a significant amount of their online presence!
If only Facebook had known it’s place in the market and stuck to being a social app that was great for posting pictures of pretty dogs like me. And of course us dogs are big fans of the ‘friend request’ because we use it widely in the real world, although for me it would make more sense for the thumbs up icon to be a nose sniffing a butt!
Sadly businesses have become reliant on a ‘free’ product to stamp their presence in the world (sort of a pee on a tree stump to let everyone know you are there) and to make important announcements (sort of like barking) to the world.
What we have now learned is that this reliance on a free product to perform critical business processes probably was not the smartest move – I guess it’s a bit like using a toothpick to perform a grade 4 dental! Sadly however, critical emergency services and charities were effected by Facebooks mismanagement of content blocking.
So while my Mom and Dad were not watching, I fired up my laptop, logged into the APL Accountants Facebook business page and made some changes. Typing furiously using my nose and paws I expressed what my feelings were about the situation – something I feel very strongly about, because my original rescue charity who saved my life also rely on Facebook to save doggies like me.
Who knows how long the changes I made to the APL Facebook page will last. Maybe Facebook will take them down in disgust of what a doggy may think. Or maybe my Mom and Dad will disagree with the changes I made and bring things back to how they were – time will tell.
