APL Accounting News July 2017

Happy new financial year

To set yourself and your business off to a flying start this year, you will need to take care of your financial and paperwork obligations as they arise.  First on the list is reconciling your payroll, issuing payment summaries to employees by 14 July, and lodging the payment summary report with the ATO by 14 August. The ATO often issue fines if they have not received the payment summary report by the due date.  What better way to save around $1100 than lodging your forms on time!?

New quarter and new KPI’s

As it’s a new quarter it’s also a good time to roll out some new KPI’s for your staff and select your new quarterly theme.  We will also be preparing annual benchmarking reports for our full reporting clients so you will have up to date information on how your business has been performing in the last year.  You’ll see what has worked for your business, which areas can be improved and whether you are celebrating or commiserating there are always ways that you can still improve business performance and best practice.

We are yet to announce our quarterly theme at APL for our next quarter, however our theme for last quarter was “Pirates” and we all had our own KPI’s to work with.  Let’s just say, at the time of publishing, it is safe to say it looks like the entire APL team will be walking the plank.

Superannuation contributions

Just a reminder that the superannuation contribution caps have been changed from 1 July 2017 to $25,000 for everyone regardless of age.  If you do automatic direct deposits or have an amount salary sacrificed on your pay or similar you will need to change this amount to reflect the new cap.  If you go over the contribution cap at the end of the year you are charged interest by the ATO, and you don’t want that!

Webinars

This year we have begun to have live webinars with guest speakers on a variety of topics relating to the veterinary world.  If you haven’t yet registered for one of these webinars but would like to be on our mailing list advertisting these events, please contact us at admin@aplaccountants.com.au   We guarantee you won’t be disappointed with these fast paced, entertaining, often controversial discussions.  You may even pick up some top tips on ways to improve your business performance.

The webinars are usually on a Wednesday at 1pm (Brisbane time), however they are always recorded and available to watch at your own leisure if you have registered for the webinar.

If you have a topic that you would like to see covered, we are open to suggestions.  Please send your ideas through to admin@aplaccountants.com.au and we will be happy to bounce around the idea.

Dog tails

It is with great sadness that we announce that Zack our CEO has left us to take a higher position over the rainbow bridge.  He will be sorely missed around our office.

In other dog tail news, we have rescued a new office assistant called Chica.  She is a chihuahua daschund mix with a lovely nature and she may be just a little bit cute.  She is Strudel’s new best friend and partner in crime.

We also have a new junior admin assistant called Stella.  She is a cavoodle who belongs to Debbie.  She doesn’t come in often as she is a little shy at the moment, but we are sure the APL dogs will bring her out of her shell sooner rather than later.

Chica and Stella are both a good mix with our other furry friends at APL and the other dogs can’t wait to let them try on some of their clothes and costumes.
